A la playa
In 2023, tourists spent 2.9 billion nights in tourist accommodation across the EU, a 6.8% increase from 2022, when 2.7 billion nights were recorded. Data available for 2024 looks even more promising, as nights spent in tourist accomodation in the EU from January through to May this year grew by 3.5% compared to the first five months of 2023, although bad weather in June may have adversely affected the summer figures. Eurostat also provided country data, showing that in 2023 the largest number of nights – 485 million – were spent in Spain, followed by France, Italy and Germany. The same ranking applied for 2022, while the initial data for 2024 shows Germany in second place, close behind Spain, followed by Italy and France, the latter moving from second to fourth place. Nevertheless, the remaining months of the year could still change the results, especially since the crucial summer data is yet to be included.
The Daily Sketch is going to the beach as well. We will take a short summer break and return September 4. Wishing all our readers a great summer and safe travels if you are going away.
