World Water Day aims to raise awareness on the importance of clean and fresh water. One of the dangers to that PFAS chemicals, which have been associated with various health problems. PFAS are found in fire-fighting foam and corrosion prevention products, as well as stain- or water-resistant products. With public concerns growing, regulations have been implemented to restrict the use of PFAS and to clean them up where they exist. The PFAS problem creates opportunities for some companies such as engineering consultants, water treatment equipment makers and environmental waste managers. The American Water Work Association estimates that water utilities have to spend more than USD 30 billion to meet new PFAS standards on drinking water alone in the US. Significant investments also have to be made in wastewater, industrial sectors, government-related entities and aviation to treat PFAS.
