Adopting AI
As we discussed earlier this year in 5 digital innovations to shape a new era of growth, while the hype surrounding new generative AI tools will likely fade, AI itself holds great promise to enhance robotics, industrial design, cybersecurity, and the Internet of Things. In addition, a wave of software tools enhanced by generative AI, from Adobe’s Project Stardust to Microsoft’s Office Copilot, are on the path to commercial release. However, enterprise adoption of generative AI remains a work in progress as managers assess options from custom solutions to purpose-built applications. According to a recent Morgan Stanley survey of enterprise Chief Information Officers, 31% have no immediate plans to implement generative AI and 48% do not expect to have the technology in production until the second half of 2024 or later. Adopting new technologies often bears more resemblance to a marathon than a sprint.
