Balanced portfolio
Given the popularity of stock memes on social media over the last few years, one might assume that the asset base of younger consumers is dominated by equities, however this is not the case. According to the US Federal Reserve most recent study of assets and liabilities, corporate equities and mutual funds account for just 6% of the millennial generation’s asset base. At 38%, real estate accounts for the largest share of millennial’s assets, however adjusting for mortgage liabilities, the figure drops to 15%. Baby Boomers continue to account for the largest share of total assets at 50%. Unsurprisingly, although notable, 70% of total personal assets in the US are held by those with at least a college degree.
