Beyond the slots
Las Vegas is evolving from a gambling paradise to an entertainment hotspot. Despite gambling generating USD 13.6 billion in 2024 (with slot machines alone earning nearly USD 6 billion), it’s not the primary revenue source for hotels on the Strip. In 2024, 74% of their income came from rooms, food, beverage, and other services, up from 65% in 2015. This shift is partially driven by high-profile events that are turning Las Vegas into an entertainment hotspot like the Super Bowl, Formula One, and concerts at the USD 2.3 billion Las Vegas Sphere. Only 7% of visitors surveyed by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor Authority cited gambling as their main reason for visiting, while 48% mentioned vacation and 9% special or sports events.
