Clean energy jobs
Employment in US electricity generation has undergone a transformation in recent years. Employment in traditional fossil fuel-based generation like natural gas, coal and oil has declined because of government policies and increasing competitiveness of renewables like solar and wind. About 77% of employment in US electricity generation is now in clean energy jobs, with solar accounting for 334 thousand jobs and wind for another 120. Additionally, energy efficiency and grid modernization have spawned new roles related to smart grid technologies and energy management. The energy efficiency sector now employs 2.2 million people more than twice that of electricity generation.
