Cross-border publications
06.04.23 | We know now that international flows of scientific authors are changing and the relative quality of scientific publications from countries have changed as well. However, would it really matter if authors increasingly came from several countries and collaborated on a scientific publication? Prior to the Covid pandemic international collaboration on scientific publication was increasing in most countries. But that increase has stalled since in the US, EU, Japan, China and the OECD (a group of developed countries). Is that just due to Covid-related travel restrictions or another sign of a deglobalizing world with more geopolitical tensions? If the former, there is substantial room to collaborate more internationally, especially by Asian scientists who tend to collaborate less than their western colleagues.
