Desert island streaming
Since 1942 the BBC radio program, Desert Island Discs, has invited notable guests to discuss the audio recordings they would like to have on hand were they stranded in the middle of the ocean. In a modern twist of that remote scenario, a poll conducted by the research firm The New Consumer asked what one video streaming service respondents in the US would want if they too were cast away. Largely mirroring industry viewing hours data, 31% of respondents to the New Consumer poll said they would choose YouTube as their only video service and 21% selected Netflix. There are more than 100 million available channels on YouTube including 550 thousand channels with more than 1 million subscribers each. The most popular YouTube channel, Mr. Beast boasts more than 300 million subscribers. Although YouTube has little in the way of scripted programming the service does offer a seemingly infinite array of content including thousands of videos on the subject of boat building.
