Double work
A growing percentage of US Americans are holding two or more jobs simultaneously to make ends meet. Recently, the share of multiple jobholders among the employed reached 5.4%, up from 4.0% in 2020, reaching a level last seen in 2009. The number of college graduates holding two or more jobs has increased as well. College graduates now comprise about half of the multi-job workforce in the US, up from around 30% in the 1990s. Apps facilitating gig work and side hustles, such as ride-hailing and food delivery, may be contributing to this trend. Additionally, remote work tools allow more people to take on projects alongside their regular jobs.
