Dry beer
Alcohol is banned in certain countries, and to various extents in certain subdivisions such as counties in the United States, which enforced prohibition nationwide between 1920 and 1933. Elsewhere, however, explicit prohibition is not necessary to reduce alcohol consumption, as a trend toward alcohol-free versions of traditionally alcoholic drinks continues. This is often for health-related reasons, such as a general aversion to alcohol, pregnancy, or to not drink and drive. Alcohol is at a low concentration in beer compared to wine or spirits, making the brewed beverage the easiest to adapt without significantly altering the taste. As a consequence, worldwide sales of non-alcoholic beer grew at a 9% CAGR between 2018 and 2023. Revenue from supermarkets and convenience stores grew continuously during the period, while revenue in restaurants and bars was temporarily impaired as social gatherings were often prohibited between 2020 and 2022.
