Easter spree
Despite the uncertainty around tariffs impacting consumer demand in the US, the National Retail Association forecasts Easter-related retail spending to increase 5.3% this year to USD 23.6 billion. That is still down from a record USD 24.0 billion in 2023. The projection is made using a survey of almost 8,000 adults. About 79% of US Americans will celebrate Easter this year, down from 81% the past few years. In 2025, they expect to spend USD 189 per person, up around USD 12 from last year. Food continues to be the biggest retail category, with USD 7.3 billion at Easter followed by gifts at USD 3.8 billion and candy with USD 3.3 billion. Consumers could be pulling forward some purchases that they expect to increase in price later due to tariffs, although this would most likely impact non-perishables as most perishable goods are produced locally.
