Recent trends in social media demonstrate artificial intelligence is having a positive impact on advertising targeting and user engagement with the services. At work, employer engagement has been trending in the other direction. According Gallup’s quarterly workplace survey, employee engagement reached an 11-year low during the 1st quarter of 2024, down 3 percentage points year on year and quarter over quarter. The negative trend is most pronounced among younger employees, with Generation Z engagement down six points year on year. Notably, while those who work exclusively from home showed a 5-point decline, engagement among those who work in the office but have jobs that could be performed at home fell 6 points, according to Gallup.
