Global connectedness
Globalization seems to continue as the level of global flows of information and capital reached an all-time high in 2022 and remained close to that level in 2023. That is despite rising geopolitical tensions according to research by logistics company DHL and university NYU Stern. Since 2011, they have partnered to find a reliable way to measure the level of globalization in their Global Connectedness Index by tracking cross-border flows in trade, capital, information and people. The Global Connectedness Index indicates plenty of growth potential for international activity as the current level of globalization stands at 25%. Whether that will materialize is a tougher question as we observe an increasing share of companies onshoring or nearshoring their supply chains.
