Leaving home
In Europe, adult children leave their parents’ home and get their own place at the tender age of 26.3 on average, according to EuroStat. Notably, this figure has remained nearly constant for a decade. Driven in large part by cultural differences there is some variation across the EU with those in Finland moving out at the age of 21.4 on average compared to Croatia at 31.8. Home ownership rates are above 90% in Croatia, Romania and Slovakia, suggesting people prefer to stay with their parents longer to save for a purchase, rather than renting in interim.
