Less disco, more walking
Since 1986 the Foundation for Future Studies has surveyed the leisure activities of adults in Germany, and as is the case in most of the developed world, digital activities from surfing the internet to watching television are the most popular. Among more active pursuits, this year’s study revealed some interesting trends over the last ten years. Fifty-six percent of Germans report regularly taking walks, up 17 points from 2013. Notably, visiting museums or other art venues also rose 17 points to 45% of respondents. Curiously, the only category in the survey to signal a decline was attending discos or clubs, which fell from 37% to 26%. You could also look at that statistic from a different perspective: more than a quarter of Germans are still hitting the dancefloor and disco is ‘Stayin Alive.’
