While many continue to fear the potential for AI to eliminate jobs, software development platform Github notes the technology not only lifts developer productivity, but it also enables new participants to enter the profession. Over the past year, the number of teachers and students using Github’s AI powered coding tool CoPilot has doubled year on year according to the company’s recently published annual trends report. With 22 million developers, the US remains the largest base of software developers on Github. However, the fastest growth regions are in emerging markets. After overtaking China in 2022, Github expects India to overtake the US and become the country with the largest number of developers on the platform by 2028.
