Rising home ownership
The percentage of people who own their home in the US has been declining for all age cohorts since 2007. All generations were negatively impacted by the Great Recession and, as a result, the home ownership rate has dropped, declining by more than 10 percentage points for some age groups. However, U.S. Census Bureau data shows that since 2017, the homeownership rate is on the rise again, especially for younger generations. Home ownership rates have not yet returned to the level recorded in 2007, but the trend is promising.
