Subtitles on
More often than not, young adults in America watch television with the subtitles on, even when the program is in a language they know. According to a recent poll by YouGov, 63% of US adults under the age of 30 prefer to watch TV with the subtitles on versus 38% for all Americans. Respondents who use subtitles noted the feature enhances comprehension and aids the understanding of accents. Notably, 38% of respondents stated they do not watch foreign language shows. When watching a program in a language they do not understand, viewers are more than twice as likely to use subtitles over watching a dubbed version of the show.
