T-Shirt economics
The humble t-shirt is worn across all walks of life. A luxury t-shirt can sell for more than Euro 1,000 and basic t-shirts cost less than Euro 5. However, the economics of apparel production is less than equitable. According to the European Commission’s Fashion Checker, garment workers receive just 18 cents in wages from the production of a typical Euro 29 T-shirt. Furthermore, garment industry factory workers receive just 55% of the pay needed to maintain a decent standard of living.
