Waiting for the grid

At the current rate, wind and solar energy projects could face up to 15 years of delays to connect to power gids. In the UK for instance, more than 222 gigawatts of wind and solar projects are waiting in the queue for interconnection as transmission and distribution providers attempt to keep pace and upgrade their networks to accommodate the changing energy generation market. As a result, Bloomberg New Energy Finance estimates that USD 21.4 trillion needs to be invested in the global electricity grid by 2050 to achieve net-zero emissions objectives.
